Story
This October I'm taking part in the Brisbane to Gold Coast Cycle Challenge.100kms of cycling to raise money for Stronger for Longer.
This money will go towards supporting leading Australian prostate cancer research at QUT. Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australian males. It affects one in seven Australian men in their lifetimes and is the third most common cause of cancer death.
I welcome any contribution, great or small, that you could make to this cause.
The last time I rode this distance was part of another charity event in 2010 which was also my first time on a bike. Back then, I made a name for myself as the master of the low-speed crash. Why is it so difficult for me to unclip at traffic lights? In an effort to not repeat this on the day I have actually decided to do some riding in the lead-up. In just the last few months though, I've ended up on my bum more than once and would love to share some of the humour from my accidents on this page with all of you. If you don't donate because you support the cause, please donate to encourage more embarrassing stories.
The image below is a re-enactment of the position I found myself in last week. Have a look at the post below (Lesson 1: How not to gracefully dismount from your bike) to see how I was able to achieve it.
Activity
Stronger for Longer (QUT)
Stronger for Longer is an fundraising group, chaired by Andrew Bills and aims to raise awareness and funds directly to supporting leading Australian prostate cancer research at QUT.QUT researchers are developing targeted therapies that actively seek out cancer proteins and kill the harmful cells. Further research will look at restoring traditional therapy, shrinking tumours, and increasing response. This novel approach will provide several new drugs to help fight prostate cancer and progress treatment strategies to improve patient outcomes.
